Forest Frames Information
Please walk from the center of the Gedi footprint outward for ~12.5m in all four directions. A meter is a long stride. As you walk, count the number of trees that you can touch with your outstretched arms in each size category by pressing the above buttons once for each tree. When you are finished with all four transects, press done. 10 cm is about the distance between the outstretched thumb and pinky on the hand of an adult.
When each button is clicked it will record the number of trees in that category.
After the "done" button is clicked. The following equation will be used:
Tree weight = 0.0509 × (ρ × D^2 × H). Thus, for the tree counted in the 10-20 cm category for each tree use:
0.0509 × (0.65 × 15^2 × 20). Sum the total.
for the tree counted in the 20-30 cm category for each tree use:
0.0509 × (0.65 × 25^2 × 25). Sum the total.
for the tree counted in the 30-40 cm category for each tree use:
0.0509 × (0.65 × 35^2 × 30). Sum the total.
for the tree counted in the 40+ cm category for each tree use:
0.0509 × (0.65 × 45^2 × 35). Sum the total.
When the done button is clicked, sum total from the four categories and present that number as
"Total plot biomass is xxx kg"
